Kalyana Mitra is sanskrit for Spiritual Friendship. We are a Meditation Group focused on community and awakening to our lives through the practice of zen. Our Sangha is lead by Professor and Sensei James Myosan Cordova and we meet at 12pm every Monday in the Blue Room of Atwood Hall at Clark University.

TEACHER AND PRACTICE LEADERS

JAMES CORDOVA, SENSEI

TATIANA GRAY, Practice Leader

JUSTIN LAPLANTE, Practice Leader

WHAT TO EXPECT

The evening typically follow the following pattern:

A few minutes before the scheduled starting time, everyone will begin sitting quietly, on either a meditation cushion or in a chair.

At 12:00pm our practice begins. The practice leader will light incense and perform three bows. The service will then start with about 5 minutes of chanting selections from our liturgy, followed by a 20-minute period of sitting meditation, 5 minutes of walking meditation (kinhin), and a dharma talk from Sensei James Cordova or a guest teacher.

The sittings ends with a short chant and 3 standing or full bows.

WHAT TO WEAR OR BRING

There will be cushions and chairs available, so you don’t need to bring anything unless you have your own zafu or bench you prefer to sit on. Please wear whatever feels comfortable. There is no dress code beyond showing up authentically.

WHAT DOES IT COST

Dana Paramita is the practice of generosity. The teaching of the dharma is always free. Donations to help support the group are gratefully accepted.
